Not at all! Today I’m sharing a few methods I’ve personally tested to get a slick domain email for free and make your indie site look more professional.

Method 1: Use Your Web Host (Hostinger as an Example)

This is my top recommendation, especially for indie sellers just starting out. Since almost all of us buy web hosting to build our sites, and many mainstream hosts now throw in email hosting for free.

In other words, the money you already spent on hosting includes the email service. Why leave it on the table?

I’ll use Hostinger as the example here, because their value-for-money is genuinely good and tons of beginners use them.

The steps are simple:

1. Log into your hosting panel: Sign in to Hostinger’s hPanel.
2. Find the email management section: On the dashboard, you’ll easily spot an “Email” or “Email Accounts” option.
3. Create an email account: Click in, select the domain you’ve pointed to this host, choose the prefix you want (like contact, service, or your own name), set a strong password, hit create, and you’re done!

The whole thing takes under three minutes, and you’ve got an email ending in your own domain. You can log in through Hostinger’s webmail, or set it up in your phone’s or computer’s mail client (like Outlook or Foxmail) — sending and receiving is a breeze.

Pros:

• Completely free: You already paid for the hosting; the email is a bonus. Zero extra cost.
• Easy setup: Everything’s done in your hosting panel — no need to register and configure on other platforms.
• Easy management: Site and email managed in one place. Very convenient.

Most major Western hosts — SiteGround, Bluehost, etc. — offer similar features. Go check your hosting panel now; you might already be missing out on this “freebie”.

Method 2: NetEase Free Enterprise Email

If your host doesn’t offer free email (rare), or you’re on a VPS/dedicated server where you handle everything yourself, you can consider the free enterprise email services from China’s two big players.

First up is NetEase. Their email has a solid reputation domestically — stability and security are well-regarded. Their free enterprise email tier is more than enough for a startup indie site.

How to apply:

1. Visit the official site: Search “NetEase free enterprise email” (网易免费企业邮箱) and go to the official page.
2. Register and activate: Follow the prompts, fill in your domain and basic info to register.
3. DNS setup: This is the critical step. NetEase will ask you to verify domain ownership. Log into your domain registrar’s panel (like GoDaddy or Namecheap) and add the DNS records NetEase specifies (mainly MX records to point at their mail servers).
4. Create accounts: Once verified, you can log into the admin panel and create email accounts. Free tiers usually cap the number of accounts, but for a solo founder or small team, it’s plenty.

Pros:

• Professional and stable: Backed by NetEase’s tech, sending/receiving is reliable, and their anti-spam is solid.
• Enough features: Even the free tier covers the basics — fine for day-to-day operations.

One important note: NetEase’s free-tier sub-accounts don’t support SMTP/POP3 by default. That means you can’t configure them directly in standard mail clients like Foxmail or Outlook. But there’s an official workaround: download and use the “NetEase Mail Master” (网易邮箱大师) client, which manages your enterprise mailbox over NetEase’s private protocol — so you can still do client-based sending and receiving. Pretty convenient.

Method 3: Tencent Free Enterprise Email

Similar to NetEase, Tencent offers a free enterprise email service. If you live in WeChat, the integration between Tencent’s enterprise email and WeCom (企业微信) is a big advantage.

The application process is basically the same:

1. Visit the official site: Search “Tencent enterprise email” (腾讯企业邮) and go to the site.
2. Register and activate: Scan the QR code with WeCom, or register directly.
3. DNS setup: Again, head to your domain registrar and add MX and other records per Tencent’s instructions.
4. Activate and use: Once DNS propagates, manage and create mailboxes in the admin panel.

Pros:

• WeChat ecosystem integration: Seamless integration with WeCom — send and receive email right from WeChat. Super convenient if you’re used to communicating via WeChat.
• Big-brand backing: Tencent’s tech is trustworthy too.
